ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Susan Count is a life-long equestrian and owned by a Rocky Mountain Horse that is kind hearted enough to take her on long forested trail rides. She adores grandchildren, horses, and bunnies.
Instilled with the need to create, she loves building projects and writing adventure stories. She writes at an antique secretary desk that occupies a glass room with a forest view. Fittingly, it once belonged to the grandmother who introduced her to the love of reading via Walter Farley's horse books. That desk has secret compartments which hold memories, mysteries, and story ideas.
Susan has published four books in an equestrian series. As a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, American Christian Fiction Writers, and Texas Association of Authors, she takes studying the craft of writing seriously. Revision is her super-power.
She says the only thing more fun than riding might be writing horse adventure stories and she invites you to saddle up and ride along. You can learn more about Susan's work by visiting her

Excerpt
Mary intertwined all her fingers and rubbed the heels of her hands together until they burned red. She had to be careful to tell her papa about the filly without revealing she had ridden in Laura’s buggy.
Mrs. Tate pressed the door open. “Want to come inside, dear, before the mosquitoes find you?”
“No, thank you. I have to talk to Papa, and he should be home soon.”
“I’m keeping your dinner in the oven. Oh, he’s turning onto the farm road now.”
As he walked to the porch, Mary smiled big. “I love you, Papa.”
“That’s nice to hear.” He kissed the top of her head and sat across from her. “You look like you are about to explode with exciting news, so let it out.”
“Laura came today. We talked about the red bay filly. They named her Illusion too. Don’t you think that’s from God?”
“Not sure what you mean, but it’s certainly a coincidence.” “Mrs. Tate calls things like that a God-incidence.”
“Is that what has you all excited?”
“Yes, I think God wants us to buy Illusion.”
Papa scratched his head and pondered the reality sitting before him. “I know you love watching and sketching the foals, but it is quite another thing to own one. Horses are not kittens or puppies.”
“So she would never be able to sit in my lap. She could still be my best friend. I think she was meant for me. You know I already love her.” “As do I, but she has a happy home, and we get all the benefits of enjoying her without the expense. Not to mention the trouble.”
Papa patted her on the knee. “We better go in to dinner.” He held open the door for Mary, but she didn’t budge.
“That’s just it, Papa! She doesn’t have a happy home at all.” Her voice grew shrill. “They are going to murder her.”
“What?”
