Review: A Gift to Cherish by Victoria Bylin

5 Stars!
I am a huge fan of Victoria Bylin's contemporary novels (I've read all but one of them!) and after absolutely loving When He Found Me last year I jumped at the chance to request a review copy of the second book in the series! I loved Daisy in When He Found Me, and I was dying for her to get her own story, so when I first read the description of A Gift to Cherish and saw who it was about I was ecstatic and knew I had to read it! This book exceeded all my expectations, and I LOVED IT SO MUCH!
Thankfully, I have not had the same life experiences as Daisy, but I could totally relate to her feelings of unworthiness and fear that she wasn't good enough, she feels like a dear friend to me and I kept wishing I could reach through the pages and give her a hug!
Rafe is a fabulous, swoon-worthy hero, who is very protective and kind, but also broken and in need of healing. I know you will love him as much as I did!
I absolutely loved that one of the settings for this book is a ranch that was formerly used as a filming location for a TV western, that was such a unique and enthralling aspect of the story! Joan's story and POV was an excellent addition, it is both a cautionary tale and a beautiful reminder that no matter how badly we screw up God will never stop loving us!
A Gift to Cherish is an amazing read that I absolutely adored! I love the town of Refuge, Wyoming and I can't wait for my next visit! I'm looking forward to seeing who the next book will be about, my prediction is Chelsea!
A Gift to Cherish is definitely one for the keeper shelf, I highly HIGHLY recommend it!

My Thoughts:

4 Stars!
An excellent romantic suspense novel from a new-to-me-author!
I was sucked into this story from page one and couldn't stop reading!
Kate and Alex were both great characters, they were not without flaws and things in their lives that they needed to face and work through, but that only made them more relatable. They were both very likeable and I was rooting for them from the get-go!
The unique premise of this book is what first caught my attention, and it totally lived up to my expectations!
This book has the perfect balance of suspense and romance, and kept me glued to the page throughout!
The author clearly knows Atlanta well and I found it to be a fascinating armchair vacation! My favorite type of storytelling is when the author gives just enough description of the setting and surroundings that I can totally picture it, but not so much that it bogs down the story with pages of unnecessary details, and I'm thrilled to say that Denise Weimer mastered this perfectly, well done!
I so enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more of this author's work in the future!
I highly recommend Traces, especially for fans of Lynette Eason, Dani Pettrey, Dana Mentink, and Susan May Warren.

Review: Border Breach by Darlene L. Turner

5 Stars!
Wowza! This book is FABULOUS!
Before I finished the first chapter I knew I was going to love this book, and love it I did!
The suspense was never ending and SOOOO good, I was totally on the edge of my seat from start to finish and couldn't stop reading! And I have to say that I was totally shocked by the identity of one of the villains, and that doesn't happen often because I read a lot of suspense books, well done!
This book has the perfect blend of suspense, romance, faith, and character development, and none of those elements were lacking the slightest bit!
I loved that Kaylin and Hudson knew each other prior to the start of the story, and I felt that they went from disliking each other, to caring for each other, to falling in love in a completely natural and realistic way, no insta-love here, and I loved that!
I absolutely loved getting to armchair travel and explore Canada alongside Kaylin and Hudson.
Romantic suspense is my favorite genre and I'm very picky when it comes to choosing books in this genre. I only have a handful of romantic suspense authors that are must-read favorites for me, and with Border Breach Darlene L. Turner has earned a permanent spot on that list!
I seriously loved Border Breach so much that I already want to re-read it!
I honestly can't think of a single thing I didn't love about this book. I will definitely be thinking about these characters for a long time to come.
Border Breach is without question one of the best Love Inspired Suspense novels I've ever read, and I most highly recommend it!
Okay, I'm done gushing, for now, but let me just say this: if you're a romantic suspense fan you need this book in your life ASAP!

I received a copy of this book from the author. Which did not influence my review in any way. All thoughts are one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

Excerpt

Selah stepped out onto the porch and lifted her voice. “Dream!”
Hooves pounded as Sweet Dream cantered in from the far pasture. Selah ran to meet the black mare. Throwing her arms around the horse’s neck, she breathed in the spring-grass scent of her. “It’s not dark. We have time for a ride.” Faster than a pan of fresh-baked cookies can disappear, she tacked up and rode out.
As the absolute beauty of spring in The Canaan Grasslands lifted Selah’s troubled heart, she urged Sweet Dream into a canter. Her joy in the moment soared.
They eased to a stop on the knoll where she’d first seen Dream almost a year ago. The trapped horse would’ve been devoured by buzzards if Selah hadn’t found her when she did. “It makes me so happy to be here. I can almost forget what is about to happen to me.” She leaned forward onto the saddle pommel and slipped her hands around the horse’s neck as far as she could reach. “To us.”
Maybe it was the fresh air. Maybe it was because when she rode she was in the moment, but as she enjoyed the meadow, all things became very clear in her mind. Selah had a plan.
“Grandpa. He’s my ticket. He’ll do anything for me.” Her fingers fidgeted with the reins. I talked him into a cat. Who but me could’ve talked him into keeping Sweet Dream? She moved a hand to cover her heart. When he sees how hurt and upset I am, he will surely suggest I come live with him. It’s the only way this can work.

Excerpt

Clouds slipped over the moon as if a child was playing with the lights of the world. One second it was dark like coal tar, and then almost bright enough to read a book. The clouds held no promise of rain, only beauty and entertainment. The whistle of the northbound train traveled crisply through the woods.
Selah sat curled up in a folding camp chair, just outside the stall but near the hay bucket. Her eyes were the only thing moving as she sucked in every detail, every movement, and every twitch of the black mare. Skunk slept soundly at the foot of the chair.
The mare stayed an easy, comfortable distance away from Selah all evening. Still, the horse’s eyes, and at least one ear, remained riveted on her new little friend with cream-colored hair.
“She is watching me, thinking carrots could appear at any time.”
Grandpa stared at Selah from the house and sighed. Stepping out on the porch, he tried to draw her into the house without putting his foot down too hard. “Selah, it’s time for bed. Come on in now.”
“Okay, Grandpa. I’m coming,” Selah answered without moving. “Just a few more minutes with my dream.”
From deep inside Selah, a yawn started and engulfed her whole being. With a Texas-sized exhale, she slipped from her chair onto the barn floor, where she nestled next to Skunk. Selah gathered under her head some of the hay that had filtered down from the net. The sleeping dog dreamed in the soft sand beside her. In spite of Selah’s great effort, she was losing the battle to stay awake. “What should I name you? Hum... You feel like a song in my heart,” she whispered as her eyes curtained.
Grandpa brought a small blanket out of the house for his sleepy girl. Selah kept her eyes closed and pretended not to hear him coming. Skunk raised her head as he approached. He rubbed under her chin, and then draped the blanket over a curled-up Selah. Selah’s cat, Pearl, drifted soundlessly toward the pile of sleepers in the sand to take her rightful place next to Selah. “Sweet dreams for now, girls. I’m afraid you’re in for broken hearts tomorrow.”

Excerpt

Mary intertwined all her fingers and rubbed the heels of her hands together until they burned red. She had to be careful to tell her papa about the filly without revealing she had ridden in Laura’s buggy.
Mrs. Tate pressed the door open. “Want to come inside, dear, before the mosquitoes find you?”
“No, thank you. I have to talk to Papa, and he should be home soon.”
“I’m keeping your dinner in the oven. Oh, he’s turning onto the farm road now.”
As he walked to the porch, Mary smiled big. “I love you, Papa.”
“That’s nice to hear.” He kissed the top of her head and sat across from her. “You look like you are about to explode with exciting news, so let it out.”
“Laura came today. We talked about the red bay filly. They named her Illusion too. Don’t you think that’s from God?”
“Not sure what you mean, but it’s certainly a coincidence.” “Mrs. Tate calls things like that a God-incidence.”
“Is that what has you all excited?”
“Yes, I think God wants us to buy Illusion.”
Papa scratched his head and pondered the reality sitting before him. “I know you love watching and sketching the foals, but it is quite another thing to own one. Horses are not kittens or puppies.”
“So she would never be able to sit in my lap. She could still be my best friend. I think she was meant for me. You know I already love her.” “As do I, but she has a happy home, and we get all the benefits of enjoying her without the expense. Not to mention the trouble.”
Papa patted her on the knee. “We better go in to dinner.” He held open the door for Mary, but she didn’t budge.
“That’s just it, Papa! She doesn’t have a happy home at all.” Her voice grew shrill. “They are going to murder her.”

“What?”

Review: To The Only Boy I've Loved Before by Liwen Y. Ho

5 Stars!
Oh, how I loved this story! After absolutely loving book one I didn't think this series could get any more amazing, but boy did it! I loved To The Only Boy I've Loved Before even more than the first book in the series! I loved Ava and Liam so much and their story is so beautifully written that it had me grinning and happy-sighing more times than I can count! My heart broke for all Ava had been through, and I found myself wishing I could reach through the pages and give her a hug! And I so admired her bravery and determination to look on the bright side. I loved that even though these characters are teenagers they are very mature, and there is very little if any typical angst or drama in this book, so I think it will definitely appeal to a wide range of readers, and especially fans of Kasie West! This book is so good that I hated to see it end! I love Liwen Y. Ho's writing so much, and she is fast becoming one of my favorite authors, I can't wait to read her next book and continue catching up on her amazing backlist!
I highly, HIGHLY recommend To The Only Boy I've Loved Before, I seriously wish I could give it more than five stars! This is a series that YA romance fans will not want to miss!

My Thoughts:

I'm always up for a mystery/suspense romance read and this is a great one from a new-to-me author! I love that this story features three strong female characters who are best friends and have opened a private Detective agency together!
I loved that this story is told in first person POV alternating between Ava and the hero, Cory! This is a writing technique that you don't often see, but that I personally am a huge fan of, and I love that the author chose to write her story in this way!
There were moments where I would have liked a tad more suspense, but overall I feel like the romance and suspense aspects of the story were pretty well balanced. The faith thread was wonderful and perfectly written! Fateful Fall is definitely a fast paced page turner that held my interest throughout! I really enjoyed this book, and very much look forward to reading Shauna's story Summer Flash Burn, and hopefully a third story about Jillian!
I highly recommend Fateful Fall!
