My Thoughts:

I’ve always been fascinated by real-life rescue stories, so when I learned about this book I knew I had to read it!

Andrea Jo Rodgers is a skilled writer. She did a great job of capturing and describing the feel of a small town. I don’t very often read non-fiction, but I loved the way the author presented these true stories from her 30 years as a volunteer EMT. This book is easy to read and engaging, in fact it almost reads like a novel, but even better because all the stories are real!

I am fairly well versed in medical terminology so there weren’t many terms in this book I was unfamiliar with, but the author did a wonderful job of explaining lingo a reader may not be familiar with, and I loved that she did so quickly and succinctly so the reader could easily get up to speed without being pulled out of the story.

What I loved most about this book is how the reader gets to see that in the midst of all the good, bad, and ugly parts of life God is always  present, and no matter the circumstances He is always working things out for the good!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author.

My review was not influenced in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.

More from Andrea Jo

Coincidence or the Hand of God?

Have you ever wondered if someone is saved by pure chance? Is it just his or her lucky day? Or is more at play? I believe that people aren’t assisted by mere coincidence. I think the hand of God is at play, putting the pieces in motion to orchestrate miracles.

During my 35 years as a volunteer emergency medical technician with my local first aid and rescue squad, I’ve often witnessed the power of prayer and how God works to put the right people in the right place at the right time. For example, in my latest book Heaven-Sent Miracles and Rescues, I convey how a young woman who gets out of work later than usual sets in motion a dramatic rescue. In another case, a young man stops at a friend’s apartment just in time to alert 911 that she is unconscious and barely breathing due to a heroin overdose. At times, our patients overcome seemingly insurmountable odds to survive.

God’s loving hand doesn’t have to take the form of sensational rescues. It can be more subtle, such as having our squad volunteers be present to pour love on a dying hospice patient during his last hour on earth, or in another instance being available to tuck in a lonely woman grieving the loss of her mother. As a resident of a small town, I’ve been privileged to form strong bonds with some of my patients, and my life is immeasurably richer for it.

The next time you brush something off as just a coincidence, take a few minutes to consider the alternative. Perhaps you are witnessing the loving hand of our Lord at work.

Review: Targeted by Lynette Eason, Lynn H. Blackburn, and Natalie Walters

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A fantastic romantic suspense novella collection! Few things make my romantic suspense loving heart happier than a collection of multiple stories from beloved authors, so needless to say Targeted made me SO happy! I loved all three of these novellas. I think Lynette’s story was my favorite, but I loved the other two as well! I loved getting to see Daria Nevsky finally get her own story in On the Run by Lynette Eason. I’ve loved Daria since she first appeared in Vow of Justice, she is such an awesome character!

I loved Deadly Objective by Lynn H. Blackburn. Emily and Liam were great characters! This story is connected to Lynn’s current series, and I haven’t read either of the books in that series so far, but I had no trouble at all following this novella, and I am now looking forward to reading more about Lynn’s Secret Service agent characters!

I also loved Caught in the Crosshairs by Natalie Walters. Claudia and Ari were awesome characters and their story was fascinating to read!

I absolutely loved this collection and most highly recommend it!

Targeted is a wonderful romantic suspense collection by three of the most amazing authors in the industry today!

Grab yourself a copy of this one ASAP, you do not wanna miss the awesomeness!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. I also purchased an audiobook copy.

What a beautiful and amazing story! Toni Shiloh has knocked it out of the park once again! I loved Vivian and Michael, they were both awesome characters! I absolutely loved the charming and delightful setting. Willow Springs, Arkansas is a wonderful fictional small town that has all the feels you love about those settings! I seriously loved everything about this book, it reads similar to a Hallmark Christmas movie, but with so much beautiful depth! The faith story in this book is absolutely phenomenal, and heart-stirringly genuine! I love the Wood siblings and I can’t wait to read Jordan’s book!

Her Christmas Redemption was an absolute joy to read! I loved every minute of this book and most highly recommend it!

Review: Christmas Together by Bell Renshaw

5 Stars!!!

What an absolutely fantastic story! Bell Renshaw is fast becoming one of my favorite authors! After having met Vonnie and Simeon at the end of last years’ A Picture of Christmas I was eagerly anticipating their story, and oh my goodness it was everything I’d hoped it would be and so much more! Vonnie is such a wonderful heroine, and I found myself relating to her a lot. And Simeon, oh my stars, talk about a swoon-worthy hero! He is the absolute sweetest and I just loved him so much! I also loved all of the secondary characters. And of course I can’t forget the dogs Thor and Olaf, they were such fun!

I love the setting: Winter, Montana has become one of my favorite fictional small towns to visit!

I truly loved this story so much! I was enthralled from beginning to end and hated to say goodbye to the characters when I turned the final page! Christmas Together filled my heart with the hope and joy of Christmas, and it was an absolute treat to read!

You need this book in your life! I seriously loved it so much, and most highly recommend it!

Be sure to add this book to your holiday TBR, you won’t be sorry!

Review: Defending Honor by Kelly Underwood!

Wowzers! What an incredible book! I’ve been eagerly anticipating Laila’s story since the original series, and this story was everything I dreamed it would be and so much more!

I love the first two books in the Elite Guardians collection, but I think this one may be my favorite!

Laila is a fantastic character, I was cheering her on from the first page, and I loved watching her faith journey! And Preston was an awesome hero, I loved him!

I’m a big fan of the fake relationship trope, and I love that it was featured in this book!

The action and suspense in this book was phenomenal, I was on the edge of my seat from start to finish, and the climax was absolutely brilliant!

There aren’t words to describe just how much I loved this book! I loved every second of this story and hated to see it end!

Kelly Underwood is an amazingly talented writer, she has become a new favorite author for me, and I cannot wait to read her next book!

Defending Honor has a spot on my list of favorite reads of 2022, and I most highly recommend it!

Review: All that it Takes by Nicole Deese

WOW, just wow! I finished this book in early September and have been trying to find the words to describe how incredibly beautiful this story is. I know that nothing I can say will come close to doing this book justice, but I will try my best to communicate just how much I loved this story!

I read All that Really Matters a few months ago, it became a favorite of the year, and I didn’t think it would be possible to top it but I adored All that it Takes even more!

I loved Val, and though we don’t have a whole lot in common I found myself relating to her so much personality-wise! And I adored Miles so much! His faithful devotion to Jesus, his loving kindness, his steadfast support and encouragement, and his sense of humor completely melted my heart! There simply aren’t words to fully say what an amazing hero he is! I need a Miles in my life!

This story held me captivated from beginning to end! I loved the moments of humor that were woven so brilliantly into the story, and so many times this book had me laughing out loud, especially the light saber assault IYKYK!

The faith story is magnificently written and soul-stirringly powerful, and I can’t begin to find the words to express how deeply it touched my heart. Seeing God working in all aspects of this story to do something so incredible actually brought tears to my eyes, and I almost never cry at books. This story has left a permanent imprint on my heart and I will never be the same! You need this book in your life! This story will change hearts and lives! And I fully anticipate it will win a ton of awards next year!

I seriously adored every single second of All that it Takes, and I wish I could read it for the first time all over again!

ALL THAT IT TAKES WILL BE ONE OF MY TOP FIVE FAVORITES OF THE YEAR!

I MOST HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK,

PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND READ IT ASAP!

Review: To Win a Prince by Toni Shiloh

What a lovely follow-up to In Search of a Prince! I loved Iris in the previous book and was so excited for her story! I found myself relating to Iris quite a bit, and her story was beautiful and everything I dreamed it would be! The hero in this book was awesome, and I loved his redemption story!

It was such a joy to return to this beautiful African kingdom, and I loved getting to catch up with Brielle!

As always I LOVED how naturally and authentically Toni Shiloh weaves the faith story into her books, absolute perfection!

I loved To Win a Prince and most highly recommend it, you could read this one as a stand-alone, but In Search of a Prince is fantastic as well, and you really don’t want to miss a single minute of this duology!

This quote from Iris really spoke to my heart:

“I believe because in my darkest time, God showed me who He was and how much love He had for me.”

Review: Bring Her Home by Hannah Currie

HAPPY RELEASE DAY to Bring Her Home by Hannah Currie
This gorgeous gem from White Crown Publishing is NOW AVAILABLE!
Grab your copy today!

My Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Oh my stars! No words I can string together could possibly come close to doing justice to the stunningly beautiful masterpiece that is this book, but I will do my best!
Hannah Currie is a brilliant and tremendously talented author and I am a forever fan of her books, I’ve read and adored all of them, but honestly I think Bring Her Home may be my favorite!
This story went deeper than I was expecting, but I am so grateful that it did because it truly touched me deeply! Bring Her Home is heart-wrenching, and deeply emotional, but it is a soul stirring and heart-meltingly beautiful story of love and redemption! Even though my story and my struggles are very different from Eva’s I could totally relate to her feelings of shame and guilt, and believing she was unworthy, and unlovable. This book so beautifully reminded me with each chapter that because Jesus died for me I am forgiven, I am loved more than I can possibly fathom, and nothing can change the fact that I am a Daughter of the King. Seriously, there were moments that joyful tears filled my eyes while reading this book, and I almost never cry at books!
I loved Eva and I was cheering her on from the start. And Darrek, oh my goodness, what an incredible hero, he was the perfect mix of selfless steadfast tenderness, and “Touch her and you die.” I seriously cannot find the words to say how amazing he is and how much I love him! Note to my future husband: the bar you need to surpass in order to win my heart is now set at Sir Darrek, so you better be reading Bring Her Home and taking all the notes! (I’m kidding, mostly!)
I was completely enthralled with this story from the first page to the last, and hated to stop reading!
I don’t say this lightly, but this book seriously has the power to change lives! And in the future I fully anticipate seeing it listed alongside Redeeming Love as a classic of the Christian romance genre!
I truly can’t find the words to say how much I loved this book! Bring Her Home is one of my favorite reads of 2022, and it is one that I will be recommending forever! I wish I could give this book 10 stars!
Please do yourself a favor and read it ASAP!
Trigger warning: this book tackles mental illness, and self-harm. I felt it was handled with the utmost grace and sensitivity, but it may be triggering for some readers so I wanted to point this out.

I received a complimentary ebook copy of this book from the publisher.
My review was not influenced in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.

Review: Crossfire by Lynette Eason

Wowzers, what an amazing second book in the Extreme Measures series! I have been reading Lynette Eason for almost ten years now, I’ve read nearly all of her books, and she is one of my favorite romantic suspense authors!

Crossfire was one of my most anticipated releases of 2022 and it most definitely did not disappoint! This book throws you right into the action at the very beginning, and keeps you flipping pages at breakneck speed to find out what happens!

I loved Julianna and Clay, they are both awesome characters and it was a joy to watch their relationship develop. I loved that Julianna is an FBI Hostage Negotiator, which is not a profession you see featured often, in fact I think this might be the first book with a negotiator heroine I’ve read since reading The Negotiator by Dee Henderson years ago!

The faith story in this book is excellent! Lynette Eason delivers a beautiful story of grace and forgiveness, while simultaneously showing the evil some people are capable of if they allow themselves to be consumed with hatred and bitterness.

In each of her books this author always includes several scenes from the villain’s point of view, but I believe Crossfire is the first time she has written those scenes in first person POV (the rest of the book is in third person)

I found this fascinating and loved that she wrote it that way! The first person narration of those scenes also kept the reader from being able to know whether the villain was a man or a woman, and I thought that was absolutely brilliant, well done Lynette Eason!

Crossfire is a winner! I loved every minute I spent reading this book! I think I might have loved Life Flight the tiniest bit more than Crossfire, but this one is still a solid five star read for me and definitely a favorite of 2022!

I highly recommend Crossfire, and I cannot wait to read the third book in the series!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher.

My review was not influenced in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.

Review: The Deadly Shallows by Dani Pettrey

HAPPY BOOK BIRTHDAY to The Deadly Shallows by Dani Pettrey!

I adored this book!

5 Stars!

Oh. My. Stars! What a phenomenal conclusion to this series! I have been a super-fan of Dani Pettrey’s books for 10 years now (wow, time sure flies when you’re having fun!) I will forever be a fan of her books, and—with the exception of her debut Submerged which had been out for a few months at the time I read it!—I’ve devoured each one as it released, and am always eagerly anticipating the next one from the moment I turn the final page! And The Deadly Shallows was no exception! This book is AH-MAZING, and it totally blew me away!

Not gonna lie, I have been not-so-patiently waiting two years for this book, and it was 100% worth every second of the wait! I was immediately re-immersed into this story world and the lives of these characters who feel like dear friends to me!

I think Noah and Brooke’s story was my favorite by the tiniest bit, but I loved Caleb and Austin’s story so very much as well!

This may sound crazy considering it’s romantic suspense, but there is something about Dani’s books that makes them comfort reads for me, I can easily fall into them and get lost. Reading one of Dani Pettrey’s books is, for me, like relaxing into a comfy hammock on a beautiful summer day, and allowing myself to just be still and savor the ride! I know I’m in for a wonderful story that will thrill me with pulse pounding suspense, fully engage my brain in trying to solve the fantastically written mystery, melt my heart into a puddle with the swoon-worthy romance, and encourage and strengthen my walk with Jesus in a myriad of beautiful ways, and The Deadly Shallows completely delivers all of the above!

There seriously aren’t words to adequately express just how much I loved everything about this book, and it is one of my favorite reads of 2022! This book is everything and more, if I could I’d give it 10 stars instead of just 5!

It was bittersweet to turn the final page and have to say farewell to our beloved Coastal Guardians, but I’m eagerly anticipating anything and everything that Dani Pettrey writes next!

I most highly recommend The Deadly Shallows! If you haven’t read a Dani Pettrey book yet, well I honestly don’t know what you’ve been doing with your life, but you must rectify that ASAP!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. My review was not influenced in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.

Review: The Heart of the Mountains by Pepper Basham

HAPPY BOOK BIRTHDAY TO The Heart of the Mountains by Pepper Basham

I loved this book!

My review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What a beautiful, wonderful story! I adore Pepper Basham’s books and this one was no exception. I liked Cora instantly, she is an amazing and delightful heroine, and I loved her wit and grit! Jeb is just the sweetest hero, and from the first page to the last all the kind things he did made my heart melt into a swoony puddle!

It was such a joy to return to Maple Springs, and get to spend time with old friends.

The Heart of the Mountains is a powerful, gorgeously written story, and I loved every minute I spent reading it!

I most highly recommend The Heart of the Mountains (as well as the previous novel, Laurel’s Dream!) and I cannot wait to read Pepper Basham’s next book!

I received an ebook ARC copy of this book from the author. My review was not influenced in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.

The Last Gasp by Chautona Havig: Audiobook Review, and Giveaway!

About the Book

Book: The Last Gasp

Author: Chautona Havig

Narrator: Christa DelSorbo

Genre: Christian Historical Mystery, Fairytale

Release date: December, 2021

At the pinnacle of his Hollywood career, Garrison Prince’s reign ends tonight.

As plain old Gary Prinz, he can pursue his Bible education, buy a bungalow in Pasadena, acquire a few chickens, and marry the girl of his dreams. He just never imagined trading the silver screen for a pulpit would wreak such havoc.

A cigarillo girl, Lucinda Ashton spends her days with her boyfriend, Gary, and her evenings selling candy and “gaspers” to the Hollywood elite at the Taj Mahal Theater.

However, when gunshots ring out just as intermission begins, Lucinda finds herself smack-dab in the middle of a brouhaha that leaves three dead, and no one has a clue why.

All the police know is that the evidence points to Lucinda as the killer and Gary as the intended target.

Four new friends, one young orphan, and a potluck of clues that don’t seem to fit anywhere leave the police baffled, Lucinda in fear for her freedom, and Gary ready to trade in his acting shoes for gumshoes if it’ll save his “Cinda.”

The first book in the Ever After Mysteries combining beloved fairy tales and mysteries, The Last Gasp. This Cinderella retelling blends a murder with enough crime and story clues to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Click here to get your copy!

My Thoughts:

This was a great mystery novel that swept me away to 1920s Los Angeles!

I’ve enjoyed the Cinderella retellings I’ve read in the past, but I never would have imagined such a thing as a Cinderella story murder mystery, so creative and brilliantly done!

Lucinda and Gary were both fantastic characters, I really liked them both. And I loved that Gary was a famous actor who was choosing to leave show biz to become a pastor, that made for such a great story and I loved it!

The mystery was attention grabbing, the suspenseful scenes were pulse-pounding, and the overall story was riveting and played out in my mind like an old black-and-white movie!

I really enjoyed The Last Gasp and highly recommend it! I also just want to say that I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a fabulous job, I loved the way she brought the story to life, and the different voice she gave to each character was excellent and so well done!

I received a complimentary audiobook copy of this book. My review was not influenced in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.
