Review of A Place To Belong by Lauraine Snelling 4 Stars!!!

A great conclusion to a great series!

After reading and enjoying Whispers In The Wind, the second book in this series, last year. I couldn't wait to read the rest of Cassie's story! Now, that being said, I didn't love A Place To Belong as much as the second book. It was still really good, but the first half was pretty slow moving, and it didn't really feel like very much happened to advance the story for a while. Because of these things, there were times when I debated not finishing it, but I am happy to say I persevered and the ending was completely worth it! I really liked how realistic the romance was in this one. Another thing I loved about this one is that Cassie and the Engstrom's really felt like family to me, I felt like I had taken up residence on the Bar E ranch! While this book didn't quite make my favorites list, I still really enjoyed it and I can't wait to go back and read the first book Valley Of Dreams which I haven't read yet. I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys books set in the wild west, that feature strong heroines!
Oh, and I just have to say that I am in love with Cassie's horse Wind Dancer! I would love to see the author feature these characters in a future book because I really wasn't ready to say goodbye yet!!!

I received this book for free from Bethany House publishers in exchange for my honest review. The above is my honest opinion.

Fire Storm by Mackenzie Dare ~Interview, Review and Giveaway!~

I am pleased to feature Mackenzie Dare on my blog today. Welcome to Just Your Average reviews Mackenzie. Could you tell us a little about yourself?
I’m just a country girl who loves running down gravel roads surrounded by walls of corn, baking harvest pies and made-from-scratch bread, getting down in the dirt to plant a garden, or ridin’ my horse though the open fields. I love to write, and I take my notebook everywhere. I’m always looking for a likely place to relax and be transported into the lives of my characters… a thick patch of grass under a willowy, flowering crab apple, a place amongst the clover next to my horse as she eats in her pasture, a spot near a large, picture window on a rainy day with the pane slightly cracked to hear the rhythmic patter of water droplets while feeling the chilly breeze, a cozy spot on the fireplace mantle with a hot cup of tea, feeling the warmth and hearing the crackle as I gaze outside at the swirling snow and the blowing pine branches. I like studying life. It comes in so many forms. It’s everywhere you look, from the golden dandelions and purple violets scattered among the grass to a tiny chick-a-dee and golden finch singing high atop a tree. It’s in the thunderous ocean waves and the song of a gentle brook bubbling over rigid, moss-covered rocks. I cherish my family and consider them the most important people in this world to me. Most of all, I love my Lord and Savior, the Creator of life, the Father of justices, honor, purity, and goodness, the friend of sinners, the giver of love… everlasting love and life.
What is your book, Fire Storm, about? Fire Storm is about a couple of young families living excessively normal lives in a small-town, farming community in Northern Illinois. Wade is a paramedic. His wife, Mellissa, works in a lawyer’s office, and they are expecting a baby very soon. Their best friends, Jim and Jessica, live on a small horse farm out in the country. Jim is a fireman. Jess is a stay-at-home mom with her recently born little girl. Life is fun and carefree till… Jess starts running into threats at every turn. Are they even threats or just accidents? The thought of a killer being after Jess just seems so ridiculous though… not so much… when she comes eye to eye with murder! Who and Why? What about Wade ‘n Mellissa? Will they remain safe in their young existence as they embark in the beginnings of life’s journey, or will the epidemic of murder spread? How far does it reach? What are the secrets?
When did you first know you wanted to be a writer? I don’t remember a conscious decision. I think that’s just the way the Lord made me. I’ve always loved writing and making stories up in my head for as long as I can remember. Every once in a while, I’ll find a page of an ancient second or third grade short story and chuckle as I read it and try to decipher the context.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? I love life! One of my favorite things to do is to run outside, especially on a dew-glistening, bird-singing, spring morning… just to run toward a painted sunrise and feel absorbed in the beauty of God’s creation! I love riding my horse down the gravel road or through the cornfields. I love chilly fall days… a cool breeze floating in a slightly open window and feeling the warm apple-scented steam as you slide a crusty, golden, apple pie out of the oven just as a drip of cinnamon syrup bubbles out and sizzles. I like a crisp, breezy walk through a pumpkin patch or a swim in a Wisconsin lake. I like camping in the North Woods or browsing souvenir shops. I’ve enjoyed climbing cliffs in the Blue Ridge and drivin’ by buffalo in Yellowstone. I love findin’ deals at garage sales and hangin’ out with my family… cookout style or pizza and popcorn movie nights. My favorite time is Christmas… It’s A Wonderful Life in the DVD player, a fire crackling in the corner, the pop of popcorn, and the sweet aroma of hot chocolate as we hang ornaments and wrap lights around our Christmas tree and nativity scene. I love seeing the Lord work in my life and teach me new things. I love Him because He first loved me. He’s shown me this sooo many times in my life! One of my favorite verses is “Thy gentleness hath made me great.” He’s the giver of life… the One who makes daffodils smile and the thunderclouds clap. I love life, love, loyalty, and laughter. What do you want readers to take away from your story?
A few laughs… some exciting rushes of adrenaline… moments of curiosity and bewilderment… entertainment and enjoyment… a feeling of genuine friendship, love, and forgiveness… and most of all, a better understanding of an all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-loving God.
Do you have a favorite author (Or several!)? I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve read of the left behind series by Jerry Jenkins and Tim Lahaye. They are probably my favorite, right now.
What do you love most about writing fiction? I like the surprises! I like it when my characters stray away from the outline and suddenly reveal to me a hidden trait or a deep dark secret from their past. I like it when a good guy turns out to be not everything I thought he was or a bad guy turns out to be not so bad. I love to laugh through my characters or be taken away on the wings of imagination into a heart-racing adventure.
Do you have a favorite... Book: Left Behind Series by Jerry Jenkins and Tim Layhaye TV Show: I like old time shows like The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Waltons, Little House on the Prairie, Scarecrow and Mrs. King, ect… Song: “Immortal, Invisible” or “I’ll Never Forsake You” sung by the Steve Pettit Evangelistic Team Movie: Facing the Giants or Fire Proof
A few this or that questions. Sunrise or Sunset? That depends. I think sunsets are prettier with their pink, purple, and orange brushstrokes against God’s heavenly canvass, but you don’t get the dew drop, songbird, misty morning that comes with a sunrise. Hardcopy or e-book? Both, but there is something special about the look and feel of brand new hardcopy in your hands, just something about turning those crisp new pages. Clue or Monopoly? Haha… I love Monopoly! My family won’t even let me pick the game we play anymore. :( :) Classic or contemporary novels? God-honoring contemporary. Cake or ice cream? Oreo ice cream! … with chocolate syrup… and Oreo pieces… yum :) Dog or cat? Horse :) Car or truck? Well, I really do like my little, red car, and she’s probably a lot better on gas, but I’d love to have a truck someday. Watermelon or cantaloupe? Watermelon. Hands down. No argument. :) Anything else you would like to add? Just that I hope all you who decide to get a copy of Fire Storm enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Where can readers find you online? Anyone can find me on my blog at: poemsofprayerandpraise.blogspot.com/ or on Goodreads at: www.goodreads.com/author/show/6951145.Mackenzie_Dare You can read the first chapter of Fire Storm on either blog.

MY REVIEW:
Oh. My. Gosh! I absolutely, completely, totally loved this book! I don't know if I can put into words how much I loved it, but I will try! As a Christian, small town, horse crazy, farm girl, I was thrilled to find a Christian suspense book that was set in a small town where the main characters live on a horse farm, needless to say I found myself completely relating to so many aspects of this book! The romance, true love, and devotion between the married couples was so sweet, their were times that it made my heart swell and my stomach flutter! I loved Jim and Jessica, Wade and Mellissa, and through the skillful writing of the author I grew to love Derrick as well! And of course Morgan was just oh so adorable. Fire Storm grabbed me on page one and didn't release me until I reached the end! I usually am able to guess who the killer is, but with this one I had no clue who it was, so it was a big surprise for me when the killer's identity was revealed! And the suspense, oh my goodness it was SO amazing, just when I thought it couldn't get any crazier (In a good way!) it did!!! There is one thing I would like to point out and that is that Fire Storm is told from a number of different characters view points, while this did not bother me and I personally feel that it helped to tell the story perfectly, I know that there are people who don't like this way of telling a story, but I would highly recommend that they read it anyway because it is so worth reading!!! Fire Storm has touched my life and my heart and I feel truly blessed to have had the opportunity to read it! It is now on my list of all time favorite books and I know I will reread it many times in the future! And I highly anticipate this author's next book! In closing, Fire Storm is an amazing read, which I highly recommend to anyone and everyone!!! It is one of those rare finds that as soon as you finish it, you desire nothing more than to start it again, it's that good!!! :) I received this book from the author, in exchange for my honest review. The above is my honest opinion. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.

Undeniably Yours by Becky Wade (CFBA Tour)

This week, the

Christian Fiction Blog Alliance

is introducing

Undeniably Yours

Bethany House Publishers (May 1, 2013)

by

Becky Wade

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

During her childhood in California, Becky frequently produced homemade plays starring her sisters, friends, and cousins. These plays almost always featured a heroine, a prince, and a love story with a happy ending. She's been a fan of all things romantic ever since.

Becky and her husband lived overseas in the Caribbean and Australia before settling in Dallas, Texas. It was during her years abroad that Becky's passion for reading turned into a passion for writing. She published three historical romances for the general market, put her career on hold for many years to care for her kids, and eventually returned to writing sheerly for the love of it. Her first contemporary Christian romance, My Stubborn Heart, has been named a finalist for Romance Writers of America's RITA Award. Her newest release, Undeniably Yours, is available now.

These days Becky can be found failing but trying to keep up with her housework, sweating at the gym, carting her kids around town, playing tennis, hunched over her computer, eating chocolate, or collapsed on the sofa watching TV with her husband.

ABOUT THE BOOK

When Meg Cole's father dies unexpectedly, she becomes the majority shareholder of his oil company and the single inheritor of his fortune. Though Meg is soft-spoken and tenderhearted--more interested in art than in oil--she's forced to return home to Texas and to Whispering Creek Ranch to take up the reins of her father's empire.

The last thing she has the patience or the sanity to deal with? Her father's thoroughbred racehorse farm. She gives its manager, Bo Porter, six months to close the place down.

Bo's determined to resent the woman who's decided to rob him of his dream. But instead of anger, Meg evokes within him a profound desire to protect. The more time he spends with her, the more he longs to overcome every obstacle that separates them--her wealth, his unworthiness, her family's outrage--and earn the right to love her.

But just when Meg begins to realize that Bo might be the one thing on the ranch worth keeping, their fragile bond is viciously broken by a force from Meg's past. Can their love--and their belief that God can work through every circumstance--survive?

My Review:

I don't usually choose to read contemporary romances, but after reading and enjoying My Stubborn Heart earlier this year, I knew it was a pretty good chance I would enjoy anything Becky Wade wrote. I was not disappointed! As a horse crazy girl, the fact that the hero of this book is a horse crazy guy was definitely a big part of what drew me to this book! So needless to say, when I was offered the chance to review it, I jumped at it! I loved this book from the beginning, Meg was so great and I found myself relating to her in many ways, including her love of Oreos! Bo's amazingness won him a spot on my list of favorite heroes! I found I could totally relate to Bo when he accompanied Meg to her cousin's engagement party, as a small town, country girl myself, I feel the same way in any kind of a fancy setting! I loved all the characters, they were all written so beautifully. The message was amazing, it truly touched my heart! I loved everything about this book! In my opinion Undeniably Yours is even better than My Stubborn Heart! And. Oh. My. Goodness! That climax! Without giving away too much let me just say that my suspense-loving side was very, very happy!!!
I highly recommend this book, for everyone, even of you don't usually enjoy contemporary romances! I loved Bo's parents and siblings, and I can't wait to read more Porter family novels!
Oh and one more thing, the epilogue was so sweet, it literally brought tears to my eyes! Which NEVER happens to me, proof that Undeniably Yours is something very special!

I recieved a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via CFBA in exchange for an honest review. The above is my honest opinion. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Set during the Industrial Revolution and the Great Exhibition of 1851, Follow the Heart is a “sitting-room romance” with the feel of a Regency-era novel but the fashions and technological advances of the mid-Victorian age.

Kate and Christopher Dearing’s lives turn upside down when their father loses everything in a railroad land speculation. The siblings are shipped off to their mother’s brother in England with one edict: marry money.

At twenty-seven years old, Kate has the stigma of being passed over by eligible men many times—and that was before she had no dowry. Christopher would like nothing better than to make his own way in the world; and with a law degree and expertise in the burgeoning railroad industry, he was primed to do just that—in America.

Though their uncle tries to ensure Kate and Christopher find matrimonial prospects only among the highest echelon of British society, their attentions stray to a gardener and a governess.

While Christopher has options that would enable him to lay his affections where he chooses, he cannot let the burden of their family’s finances crush his sister. Trying to push her feelings for the handsome—but not wealthy— gardener aside, Kate’s prospects brighten when a wealthy viscount shows interest in her. But is marrying for the financial security of her family the right thing to do, when her heart is telling her she’s making a mistake?

Mandates . . . money . . . matrimony. Who will follow the heart?

My Review:

This is the first book by this author that I have read. I am not generally drawn to books with this type of storyline, but something about the description of this one intrigued me, I was not disappointed! I am not sure that I have ever read a book set in 1850s England, I found the setting and the fact that the Great Exhibition was a very big part of this story to be absolutely fascinating! I loved all the characters except Edith (But I think that you are probably intended to not like her very much!) This book held my interest throughout, it was never boring! Christopher is one of my all time favorite characters, he is just so awesome! :)
One thing I loved about this authors writing style is that while she does have her main characters notice their love interest's physical features, they don't for example, constantly think about the other's gorgeous eyes or attractive profile, I really don't like it when authors go a bit overboard with that, but such is not the case with this book, the author did it perfectly!
This book is definitely a keeper, I definitely anticipate re reading it in the future! I highly recommend it, and I look forward to the next book in this series as well as reading some of the authors other books in the near future! :)

I recieved a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via CFBA in exchange for an honest review. The above is my honest opinion. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.

Bout Of Books 7.0 Challenge: Day 7

Bout of Books

Today's challenge is called "If you like... Then you'll enjoy...
Hosted by Snarky Bird, Uber Nerd

I decided to do this a little differently and have the "If you like... Part be books and the "Then you'll enjoy... Part be a TV show!
So without further ado, here is my recommendation:
All my fellow fans of Irene Hannon and/ or Lynette Eason's unique brands of Romantic Suspense. You will LOVE a TV show called Sue Thomas F.B.Eye. It is based on a true story about a deaf woman named Sue Thomas who gets a job working for the F.B.I. because she is a gifted lip reader! It is inspiring, amazing and has a strong Christian foundation, it has everything you could desire in a show! But, wait, if you are a fan of the afore mentioned authors beloved characters AKA, VERY Special Agents, Nick Bradley, Evan Cooper, Mark Sanders, Dakota Richards and Dominic Allen. Just wait until you meet Special Agent Jack Hudson and Special Agent Bobby Manning! :)
While this show ran from 2002-2005 it is as much if not more relevant today, I can't rave enough about this show! It is my most favorite show and I highly recommend it! (But I bet you already guessed that! LOL) I guarantee if you watch this show, you are in for a treat! :)

Bout Of Books 7.0 Challenge: Day 5

Bout of Books

Today's challenge is to resummarize a book that you either read or plan to read during the read a thon based on the cover!
I chose Beauty by Robin Mckinley. A book I read and enjoyed earlier this week!

Beauty loves roses. They possess the grace and beauty she has never had, for she is plain you see. Her sisters are unique, beautiful roses while Beauty is nothing more than a common, unremarkable dandelion. When Beauty's family meets with financial ruin they move from city to country and begin their lives in a small house at the edge of an enchanted forest. When Beauty's father gets summoned back to the city, her sisters ask father to bring them pearls and jewels but Beauty simply asks for rose seeds. Their father returns months later clutching a red rose which he gives to Beauty, and tells his daughters how he has made a deal with the devil... Or rather the Beast of the castle. Beauty is determined to save her father by exiling herself to the enchanted castle. After all, the Beast sent her the rose seeds that her father forgot to buy, surely he can't be all bad, right?
As the seeds of love begin to sprout, can Beauty's own courage and the Beast's surprisingly gentle guidance show her that she embodies in every way, the eternal honor and beauty of her beloved roses.

Bout of Books 7.0 Challenges: Day 4

Bout of Books

I decided to do both challenges today!

Acrostic Poetry. Hosted by Harley Bear Book Blog

I chose my all time favorite series for this poem, but I couldn't choose a single book title so I decided to use the series title for my poem! If you have read my blog at all, then you will know that the series in question is the River Of Time series by Lisa T. Bergren. So here goes, enjoy! :)

Riveting
Incredibly Inspiring
Valiant Ventures
Enchanting, Enthralling and Epic
Read In Record Time

One In A Million
Forelli family, Forever!

Tuscan Time Travel
Insomnia inducing
Men who act like real men
Everything you desire! :)

The second challenge is Personify that story. Hosted by Kimberly Erskine

How it Works: Match a story to a person- sounds simple, but it can definitely be challenging. Have you read story or watched a character develop and thought it sounded just like your mom or favorite celebrity? Well now it's your opportunity to share

Detective Cole Taylor from Irene Hannon's Guardians Of Justice series, personifies my brother Luther in so many ways! (Which is quite fitting because I am similar to Cole's sister Alison in many ways!) Cole and Luther share a sense of strength, toughness, tenacity and determination. They both have a tendency to occasionally be too blunt and enjoy teasing their sister's! They know when to lighten the mood with humor and when to be serious. While they are both the strong silent type when it comes to talking about feelings and emotions, they show you how much they care by their actions and are always eager to help you in any way they can! While they have their flaws, both Cole and Luther are the guy you want in your corner, no matter what!

I am going to share a quote from Deadly Pursuit that sums up Cole and Alison's relationship (As well as my brother's and I) perfectly! Alison has remembered that when Cole was ten he thought his Superman cape gave him the gift of flight, he found out that was not the case and ended up with eight stitches! In this scene Alison is asserting her independent nature and Cole is asserting his protective nature. Cole has gotten called to a crime scene, Alison says "Be careful, okay?"
"I'm always careful."
"Right, Superman."
"I'm never going to live that down, am I?"
"Nope."
"I was only ten, you know. People do grow up."
"Yeah, they do. Remember to keep that in mind once we get past this stalker thing, okay?"
Cole shakes his head and opens the door to leave "Good night, Alison."
"Good night, Superman."

Jennifer: An O'Malley Love Story by Dee Henderson (CFBA Tour)

This week, the

Christian Fiction Blog Alliance

is introducing

Jennifer: An O’Malley Love Story

Bethany House Publishers (May 1, 2013)

by

Dee Henderson

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Dee Henderson is the bestselling, award-winning author of 15 previous novels, including the acclaimed O'MALLEY series and UNCOMMON HEROES series. These days, most authors are out there energetically promoting their books in print and broadcast and via social media—wherever they can get attention. But Dee Henderson keeps a low profile. She avoids telephone interviews because of hearing problems, declined to provide a current photo, and will say only that she lives in Illinois.

ABOUT THE BOOK

It's a summer of change for Jennifer O'Malley. The busy physician has a pediatrics practice in Dallas, and meeting Tom Peterson, and falling in love, is adding a rich layer to her life. She's sorting out how to introduce him to her family--she's the youngest of seven--and thinking about marriage.

She's falling in love with Jesus too, and knows God is good. But that faith is about to be tested in a way she didn't expect, and the results will soon transform her entire family.

My review:

I have only read one of Dee Henderson's books previously (The Negotiator, book one in her O'Malley series) But I really liked what I saw of Jennifer in that one and when I got the chance to review her story, I jumped on it! I wasn't disappointed! While there is no heart pounding suspense in this one, it is written perfectly! This is a very sweet love story, I felt more different emotions while reading it than I think I have ever felt from a book! I particularly loved getting inside Jennifer's head and watching her come to Christ! I loved getting to see her journey rather than just hearing about it. I must say, while this is a novella, it is the perfect length, not too short and not too long! I really loved this story, and I don't think Dee Henderson could have done anything better! I don't really know what else to say for fear of giving away too much, but in closing, I highly recommend this book! I have no doubts that Dee Henderson's many fans as well as new readers will devour this new novella! I now can't wait to read the rest of the O'Malley series.

I recieved a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via CFBA in exchange for an honest review. The above is my honest opinion. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.

Bout Of Books 7.0 Challenge Day 2

Bout of Books

Today's challenge is creating a playlist for a book. Hosted by Medusa's Library

I have to admit I love finding music that fits a book I'm reading and/or one of my favorites! For this post I decided to create a short playlist for the last book I read, which was "Accused" By Janice Cantore
Anyhoo, here are my choices!

"Believe" by Third Day (I think this should be the theme song of this book!)
"Hero" by Skillet
"Beloved" by Tenth Avenue North
"What Faith Can Do" by Kutless
"Eyes Open" by Taylor Swift (Not all the lyrics fit perfectly, but the general message of the song definitely fits!)
"Remind Me Who I Am" by Jason Gray
"You Belong To Me" by Grey Holiday

For this challenge you use the spine titles of books you have to create a poem. You can use as many or as few books as you want, and you can use other words, but you can only add as many words as you have books in your poem!

Here is my attempt! (The words I added are in all caps!) It's a little chilling but it is the best one I could come up with!!! :)

I am going to try to read at least three of the following books, and I am hoping to read all seven! But even three books is more than I usually read from start to finish in a week so I would be really pleased with that!

1. "Accused" by Janice Cantore
2. "Beauty" by Robin Mckinley
3. "Finding God in The Land of Narnia"
4. "Love in Disguise" by Carol Cox
5. "Through the Fire" by Shawn Grady
