More from Christy

Dark Water is the fourth series in the Lantern Beach Universe. When I created the fictional island of Lantern Beach, NC, I had no idea how popular it would be. I’ve fallen in love with the people there, and they feel more like friends than fictional characters.

Dark Water is about a group of former Navy SEALs who band together to former an elite private security firm. But they all share secrets, as well as guilt over the death of their SEAL leader. In order to move on, they must find answers.

I introduced Colton Locke in the last book of the Lantern Beach PD series—Plan of Action. I knew he needed his own book and that I wanted to develop his character more. That turned into a four-book series featuring Colton and three of his friends. Blackout contains suspense, mystery, and romance—all of my favorite things!

My Thoughts:

Wowza! What a thrill ride! I've read a couple of this author's books in the past and really enjoyed them, but with Dark Water Christy Barritt has earned a spot on my list of favorite authors! I loved this book SOOOO much, it's one of the best romantic suspense books I've read in 2020!
I loved that the action and suspense starts on the first page and is pretty much nonstop from that point on, which is my favorite type of suspense story!
I loved these characters so much! I admired Elise's determination, bravery, and compassionate heart, as well as how smart she is, she's a fabulous heroine, and I'd love to be friends with her if she were real!
Colton, oh my word, swoon with a capital S! I admit I'm a sucker for protective heroes in books, and if they're a Navy SEAL, even better! So I knew I would love him, and love him I did! Colton was such an excellent hero, I loved his protectiveness, loyalty, honor, kindness, and his willingness to drop everything and be there when someone he cared about needed him!
I loved that this book kept me guessing as to who the villain was, there were several possibilities that were entirely plausible and really put my armchair sleuthing skills to the test!
I have not yet read any of the other books set on Lantern Beach, and I had no trouble at all following this one so I would say that Dark Water can definitely be read as a standalone. After having officially 'met' Cassidy and Ty in this book I'm excited to go back and read all of their stories in the Lantern Beach Mysteries and Lantern Beach PD series when I get a chance!
I loved Dark Water so much, it's definitely one for the keeper shelf and I most highly recommend it! I can't wait to read the rest of the Lantern Beach Blackout series!

Book:  The Wait Will Not Be Wasted

Author: Lauren Lianne

Genre: Non-fiction/Christian Living

Release Date: February 14, 2020

You’ve probably imagined the job, the spouse, the kids—and you knew what age you wanted it all to happen. However, all too often such plans go up in smoke, and you may feel confused and forgotten when reality doesn’t match your expectations. When life doesn’t go like you planned, can you still trust that God knows how to write the best stories? Instead of taking the pen to your own story, author Lauren Walton suggests refocusing on your Creator.

After spending years frustrated because life wasn’t going according to her plans, Lauren decided to give up control. It was then she learned God’s graciousness wasn’t based on getting what she wanted and that God’s perfect plan included an unexpected season. She wrote The Wait Will Not Be Wasted to help other single women during times of unfulfilled hopes. Lauren shares how self-reflection, journaling, and practical experience have led her to find deep fulfillment and a God-given purpose while she waits. It is her hope that her journey will help others see God’s goodness even during the most difficult times.

Though directed at single women, the concepts apply to any woman waiting for God to move in her life.

About the Author

Lauren Walton is a native Floridian who now calls Nashville home. She loves traveling, dancing, staying active with her church community, and cheering on her Auburn University Tigers. Lauren’s faith has carried her through some tough times, and it is now her life goal to help others see God’s goodness even during the most difficult times.

More from Lauren

All I have ever wanted was to be a wife and a mom. In the life I had always imagined there were no other options. But then college came and went, moving to a new city and finding my first job came and went. And so many other milestones came and went, including my 35th birthday. As the years kept passing, I found myself still waiting. My heart felt confused and forgotten. I didn’t understand why God would give me this desire and then withhold it from me.

About eight years ago a friend wrote a verse in my journal. I loved it at the time but didn’t realize it would become my anthem in the future. She wrote Psalm 94:17, which says, “Unless the Lord had been my help, my soul would soon have settled in silence”. I can’t tell you how many times I almost settled in silence but turns out God had other plans for me.

Many times I started to wonder if God really was the good God I had always thought He was. I grew up in church and had been taught from a young age to believe God was good no matter what. But as the wait got longer and longer He didn’t seem to be very good. At that point, I started questioning so many things as I felt my faith beginning to crack. I was terrified of what I might find if I dug into the pain so I pushed it aside, or at least tried to. I began to believe the lie that having doubts would make me a horrible Christian so I kept silent.  I was so afraid to ask the tough questions and was afraid of what those questions might say about me. Ignoring those concerns ended up being a breeding ground for all my doubts, which eventually led me to make decisions I normally would never have made. I lost sight of God’s goodness and found myself solely focusing on what I didn’t have… a husband and a family. This was a season filled with sadness and so much bitterness. I was so over being single and so frustrated with the way my life had turned out. But somewhere in the middle of all that hurt, and despite all my mistakes, God still came for me. He started teaching me all over again who He was as my Father. And how much He loved me.

As I started walking towards healing, I began to ask God the really hard questions my heart couldn’t make sense of, and I believe He started to answer me. So I started to write it all down. I kept a running note in my phone and I always felt like the things God was showing me and encouraging me with were not just for me. If God had me still waiting, there must be a reason and I was determined to figure out what that was. I eventually took a next step and went away for the weekend to write. I found the perfect Airbnb tree house and 7 chapters came spilling out.

At that point it became very clear this book needed to be written and I felt very strongly it needed to be written now… while I am still waiting and not when I am on the other side of my singleness. It’s my hope this will cause other women to lean into what I am saying, or better yet what God has to say. I believe these are His words and not mine anyway.

The Wait will not be Wasted is my “yes” to the Lord and my thank you for how far He has brought me. It’s my whole heart in written form, and the story of my victories and struggles while walking through my singleness. It’s not the pretty or cleaned up version of my story. It was very purposely written that way so we could all take a deep breath and know it’s okay, that it’s hard and it’s okay to make mistakes. I know I’ve made plenty.

I’m praying as women read these words they will discover this life is never going to be void of the hard but there is a very real and very big God who is bigger than anything we go through. I hope together we can begin to see our singleness through a new filter, as we began to shift our attention and see things more from God’s perspective instead of our own. Knowing this doesn’t mean the wait will all of a sudden be easier. But also seeing even through the pain there is a purpose to this season. And God is working all of it together for our good.

He’s always making sure not one minute of our pain is wasted.

My Thoughts:

This is a great non-fiction read from a new-to-me-author! I made the decision to wait for God's best in a husband at the age of 16, I am now in my late twenties and still single, and I've found it difficult to find a book like this that I can really relate to in this stage of life, so of course I jumped at the chance to request a review copy of this one! This book is a bit different than I was expecting, I'd say it's a bit more of a memoir than your typical non-fiction book format, which actually really worked for me! I really appreciated that this is a book about waiting written by someone who is still waiting, and in fact there were many times while I was reading that I almost felt like the author had read my mind, because I could so clearly relate to what she was saying! I also loved that the author didn't pretend to have it all together and was very open about some of her emotional ups and downs as well as her epiphanies, I respect her all the more for her willingness to share all the realness!
The Wait Will Not Be Wasted is a quick read, but it's chock full of wisdom, truth, and encouragement.
I found this book to be very helpful and it's definitely one for the keeper shelf that I'll be turning to time and again. Another thing that I really loved was the section titled "Songs to help you through the hard moments." I'm a big fan of the healing power of music and there are lots of great songs listed here that I will definitely be adding to my playlist!
Although this book is geared toward singles, everyone is in a season of waiting for something at one point or another and this book's teaching could definitely be helpful no matter what you're waiting for!
I highly recommend The Wait Will Not Be Wasted!

A notorious Miami drug lord wants Kara dead. Can these agents pull off the greatest acting job of their lives—and manage the sparks flying between them?  Or will they die trying?
Edge of Truth is the first book in the Law Enforcement Heroes series. A romantic suspense series with nail biting suspense and a splash of romance. If you like engaging characters, small-town antics, and page turning suspense, then you’ll love Kimberly Rose Johnson’s Law Enforcement Heroes series.

My Thoughts:

This is an excellent romantic suspense read by a new-to-me-author! Edge of Truth starts off with a bang, literally, a bomb goes off on like page one or two! Which sets the action in motion and was a fantastic beginning for this type of story, I knew at that point I was in for an edge-of-my-seat thrill ride, and boy did this book deliver!
The characters were wonderful and so well drawn. I really liked Kara, she was tough and independent, but at the same time she was also very willing to accept the help of Jeff and their fellow law enforcement officers, and she didn't take stupid risks by trying to prove she could take care of herself, I loved that! I loved Jeff, he was so protective of Kara and cherished her so tenderly that it warmed my heart!
I loved that this story takes place on a ranch, that's one of my favorite settings!
This story is SO good, it kept me engaged and enthralled throughout!
I listened to this book in audio format, and the narrator did a fabulous job bringing the story to life!
While this was my first read from Kimberly Rose Johnson it most definitely will not be my last because I am now hooked on her writing!
I loved everything about Edge of Truth, it's a fabulous romantic suspense and I highly recommend it!
I am so looking forward to the next book in the Law Enforcement Heroes series!

Review: Hadley Beckett's Next Dish by Bethany Turner

Happy release day to one of my favorite reads of 2020 Hadley Beckett's Next Dish by the incredible Bethany Turner!
Check out my review below and be sure to head to Bethany's website for more info, and to follow her on the social medias!

About the Book

Celebrity chef Maxwell Cavanaugh is known for many things: his multiple Michelin stars, his top-rated Culinary Channel show To the Max, and most of all his horrible temper. Hadley Beckett, host of the Culinary Channel's other top-rated show, At Home with Hadley, is beloved for her Southern charm and for making her viewers feel like family.

When Max experiences a very public temper tantrum, he's sent packing to get his life in order. When he returns, career in shambles, his only chance to get back on TV and in the public's good graces is to work alongside Hadley.

As these polar-opposite celeb chefs begin to peel away the layers of public persona and reputation, they will not only discover the key ingredients for getting along, but also learn the secret recipe for unexpected forgiveness . . . and maybe even love. In the meantime, hide the knives.

Fan-favorite Bethany Turner serves up a heaping helping of humor and romance with this thoroughly modern story centered on cooking, enemies, and second chances.

My Thoughts:

5 Stars! (More like a bazillion!)
*Picks jaw up off the floor* Wow, I'm speechless in the best way! Fair warning: there will be gushing galore in this review! I loved Hadley Beckett's Next Dish so much that no words I can string together could possibly come close to doing this amazing book justice, but I will try my best!
I loved Hadley! She is my favorite kind of heroine, smart, sassy, spunky, but also kind, caring, generous, and delightfully real! I'm claiming her as my new fictional BFF! Without spoiling anything let me just say that I absolutely loved how Hadley's faith was so evident in the way she treated all those around her and especially Max, such a beautiful reminder of the amazing grace Jesus Christ offers to us all! Hadley I wanna be like you when I grow up! LOL!
And Max, be still my swooning heart, where is my fainting couch when I need it?! I must admit that reformed bad boy isn't generally one of my favorite hero types, but as soon as Max came on the scene, even though he tried his best to keep me from liking him at first, I liked him anyway because I could tell there was more to him than just acting like a jerk, and those feelings promptly turned to love and before I was halfway done I knew without question that he is my favorite hero of Bethany Turner's, and that I had found my newest book boyfriend! Max is definitely one of my favorite heroes of 2020! Why is Max so awesome, and why do I love him so much? Well, you're just gonna have to read the book to find out! ;)
I don't consider myself a foodie, but I do love food and this book gave me an absolutely fascinating glimpse into the life and mind of a professional chef. I felt like I was cooking right alongside Hadley and Max! But make sure you have snacks on hand because reading this book will definitely make you hungry!
Hadley Beckett's Next Dish is a beautiful story of forgiveness and second chances, and a fantabulous romance that will touch your heart and have you grinning and laughing uncontrollably from beginning to end!
In my humble opinion this book is exactly the ray of hope the world needs right now in these scary and uncertain times!
Hadley Beckett's Next Dish is everything I dreamed it would be and so much more!
I absolutely loved every second of this book and it's definitely one of my favorite reads of 2020! Most highly recommended!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. Which did not influence my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own!

My Thoughts:

5 Stars! (Scratch that, all the stars in the sky!)
After loving Mistletoe Menagerie last year I knew I'd love this book, and *blissful sigh* I totally and completely did!
I know that no words I can string together will come anywhere close to doing this incredible book justice, but I will try my best!
This book blew me away, it filled my heart with joy, and I was faced with the age-old bookworm dilemma: not wanting to stop reading, but also hating to see the book end!
Keira and Robbie instantly felt like friends to me and I was wholeheartedly cheering for them from the start. I am totally Team Robbie, he is so sweet, humble, caring, and thoughtful that I was constantly swooning, he completely stole my heart and has yet to return it to me!
Every time I thought this book couldn't possibly get any better, it did!
There seriously isn't a single thing that I didn't love about this book, and I already want to re-read it, that's how much I loved it!
The faith story and message in this book wrapped itself around my heart and will stay with me for a long time to come.
This book tackles some difficult topics, but does so with grace and sensitivity, while at the same time not downplaying how deeply they affect people.
This book gave me all the feels! I love the author's sense of humor! This book never failed to make me laugh at just the right moment, and melted my heart from start to finish!
This Wandering Heart possesses everything I love most in a contemporary romance and so much more!
Janine Rosche has earned a permanent spot on my list of favorite authors!
This Wandering Heart is one of the best books I've read so far this year, and definitely has a spot on my list of favorite reads of 2020!
This book made me so happy! It's definitely one for the keeper shelf, and I anticipate it being my go to read anytime I'm having a bad day because I know it will put a smile on my face!
I love, love, LOVED this amazing book so much, and I can't recommend it highly enough! Seriously, go order it ASAP, you need this book in your life!
I cannot wait to read Ryann's story, Wildflower Road!

More from Catherine

Thank you for your interest in the Jo Oliver thriller series. Today we celebrate Anchored by Death—book three in the series. The basic plot for this book came as a result of an FBI workshop I attended on how profilers track killers. A particular method was presented that really stuck with me. As I thought it over, I had the idea to combine a map of Wisconsin with the tracking technique I had learned, and I actually built the crime scenes around the theory. I then created a killer who would do the sorts of things I had mapped out, and in that order. This was a satisfying challenge for Josie and I enjoyed my research jaunts throughout Wisconsin while writing the chase and takedown scenes.

When Josie’s off the clock and spending time with family and friends, you can catch our heroine in the kitchen. Ever since her infamous Flourless Chocolate Cake appeared in Anchored by Death, fans have requested the recipe. For the epicurean readers, here is the recipe she used when preparing this special treat:

Ingredients:

12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips

1 ½ sticks butter

¼ salt

6 eggs, room temp

1 ½ cups sugar (white granulated or brown will do)

Confectioner’s sugar and cocoa powder for dusting top and cake stand

How To:

Heat oven to 325 degrees. Prepare springform or regular round pans with nonstick spray or butter and flour.

Melt chocolate, butter, and salt—microwave will work in a pinch—or add all to heatproof bowl and place over small saucepan of simmering water to melt without burning. Set aside to cool

Beat eggs and sugar until light and thickened, around 6-8 minutes. Fold in melted chocolate mixture until completely combined.

Pour batter into buttered and floured cake pan—springform or regular round—and bake at 350 degrees for approximately 90 minutes, until a toothpick comes out wet but relatively clean.

Allow cake to cool completely before removing from pan. Dust with confectioner’s sugar and cocoa—Jo used a stencil for a quick and pretty design.

Thanks again for celebrating Anchored by Death—and know that I appreciate you. Readers are a special breed. As a lover of the written word and an author, I invite you to enjoy the read.

My Thoughts:

This is such a great Christian mystery/suspense novel! I've been searching for a good thriller series featuring a strong female main character and I have definitely found it in the Jo Oliver Thriller series! Anchored By Death is an excellent story with tons of twists and turns, it's my favorite book of the series so far! Jo is such an awesome character, I love how delightfully real she is, her struggles are so relatable and I found myself learning and growing right alongside her.
I love Nick! He is an awesome and totally swoon-worthy hero, and I love that he unconditionally loves Jo just the way she is!
I also love Gino, he is such a fabulous character, and he makes me smile every time he appears on the page, I would love to see the author write a story starring him!
The mystery in this book was great, and totally kept me glued to the page! I loved Anchored By Death and highly recommend it! I think this book could be read as a standalone, but to get the richest reading experience I would recommend reading Cleansed By Death, and Shattered By Death before this one!
A super great read and I'm looking forward to reading Capsized By Death!
(5 Stars!)

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. Which did not influence my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own!
