Bout Of Books 7.0 Challenge: Day 5

Today's challenge is to resummarize a book that you either read or plan to read during the read a thon based on the cover!
I chose Beauty by Robin Mckinley. A book I read and enjoyed earlier this week!


Beauty loves roses. They possess the grace and beauty she has never had, for she is plain you see. Her sisters are unique, beautiful roses while Beauty is nothing more than a common, unremarkable dandelion. When Beauty's family meets with financial ruin they move from city to country and begin their lives in a small house at the edge of an enchanted forest. When Beauty's father gets summoned back to the city, her sisters ask father to bring them pearls and jewels but Beauty simply asks for rose seeds. Their father returns months later clutching a red rose which he gives to Beauty, and tells his daughters how he has made a deal with the devil... Or rather the Beast of the castle. Beauty is determined to save her father by exiling herself to the enchanted castle. After all, the Beast sent her the rose seeds that her father forgot to buy, surely he can't be all bad, right?
As the seeds of love begin to sprout, can Beauty's own courage and the Beast's surprisingly gentle guidance show her that she embodies in every way, the eternal honor and beauty of her beloved roses.

Detective Cole Taylor from Irene Hannon's Guardians Of Justice series, personifies my brother Luther in so many ways! (Which is quite fitting because I am similar to Cole's sister Alison in many ways!) Cole and Luther share a sense of strength, toughness, tenacity and determination. They both have a tendency to occasionally be too blunt and enjoy teasing their sister's! They know when to lighten the mood with humor and when to be serious. While they are both the strong silent type when it comes to talking about feelings and emotions, they show you how much they care by their actions and are always eager to help you in any way they can! While they have their flaws, both Cole and Luther are the guy you want in your corner, no matter what!

I am going to share a quote from Deadly Pursuit that sums up Cole and Alison's relationship (As well as my brother's and I) perfectly! Alison has remembered that when Cole was ten he thought his Superman cape gave him the gift of flight, he found out that was not the case and ended up with eight stitches! In this scene Alison is asserting her independent nature and Cole is asserting his protective nature. Cole has gotten called to a crime scene, Alison says "Be careful, okay?"
"I'm always careful."
"Right, Superman."
"I'm never going to live that down, am I?"
"Nope."
"I was only ten, you know. People do grow up."
"Yeah, they do. Remember to keep that in mind once we get past this stalker thing, okay?"
Cole shakes his head and opens the door to leave "Good night, Alison."
"Good night, Superman."

My review:

I have only read one of Dee Henderson's books previously (The Negotiator, book one in her O'Malley series) But I really liked what I saw of Jennifer in that one and when I got the chance to review her story, I jumped on it! I wasn't disappointed! While there is no heart pounding suspense in this one, it is written perfectly! This is a very sweet love story, I felt more different emotions while reading it than I think I have ever felt from a book! I particularly loved getting inside Jennifer's head and watching her come to Christ! I loved getting to see her journey rather than just hearing about it. I must say, while this is a novella, it is the perfect length, not too short and not too long! I really loved this story, and I don't think Dee Henderson could have done anything better! I don't really know what else to say for fear of giving away too much, but in closing, I highly recommend this book! I have no doubts that Dee Henderson's many fans as well as new readers will devour this new novella! I now can't wait to read the rest of the O'Malley series.
